The stats for January are in and houses are selling! On Camano, 17 homes sold in January compared to only 7 in 2009, and 20 homes sold in Stanwood compared to 15 last year. The BIG news, though, is the number of pending sales, which are frequently thought of as the "thermometer" of how healthy the market is and the direction it's going. Pending sales on Camano this past month totalled 26 compared to only 6 a year ago at this time, and in Stanwood there were 29 pendings last month compared to only 4 last year!
Many of these homes were sold to first-time home buyers who took advantage of the $8,000 Tax Credit. Remember that this tax credit has been expanded to include a $6500 tax credit for people who have lived in their current home for 5 of the last 8 years. BUT, time is ticking! It expires on April 30, which means to take advantage of it you must have a signed contract to purchase a home no later than that date. We have great homes and land available but as the stats above show, they're starting to move quickly!
